Performance of "Sinbad and his Spanish Lady" at the EMJ-festival in Neerpelt (Belgium) 1 May 2011
Youth-Symphony-Orchestra "Parnassos" (coming from Eindhoven/Veldhoven, Holland) conducted by Guus Dohmen has reached a second prize at the European Music Festival for Young People (EMJ-fetival) in Neerpelt (Belgium) on the first of May 2011. The orchestra played music of Grétry, John Williams but also a special version for this orchestra of "Spanish Lady" named "Sinbad and his Spanish Lady". Infuences in the piece are: French Impressionism, Spanish music and castagnet-rythms but also modern popular Dance Music. All orchestral-groupes have their "solo" moments in the pieces, which makes it very attractive to play for the orchestra. "Sinbad and his Spanish Lady" is based on 2 songs from one of Nico's books, "Position 3-2-0,5", namely "Sinbads Ship" and "Spanish Lady".

Concours artistique de Epinal (F)

Nico has been asked to sit on the jury during the "épreuves de violon" of the music competition in Epinal, France.

This competition for very different orchestral instruments will be held from March 23 through April 20 at the Théâtre Municipal Epinal (F)  As many as 68 violinists between 6 and 33 years and a piano quintet by Conservatory students presented on Saturday, April 2 for jury and audience in the beautiful old auditorium and each received a jury assessment. After each level (according to the French system), the jury reports were formally presented to the candidates on the stage of the auditorium, often accompanied by a personal message from one of the jurors. Special about this competition is that it is for all levels: from beginners to very advanced amateurs, and conservatory students. The broadcasting of the Vosges (Vosges Televions) was there and made several recordings and interviews. Below are some impressions of the day:
